How three plumbing shops won the holiday rush with AI answering
Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve is the busiest plumbing week of the year. Here's what the data looked like for shops running PhoneGPT.
Frozen pipes, garbage disposal disasters, and overflowing kitchen sinks make the last six weeks of the year the most lucrative - and the most chaotic - on a plumber's calendar. We sat with three pilot shops in Denver, Minneapolis, and Chicago to look at what their phones did between November 23rd and January 1st.
What we found
- Inbound call volume jumped 2.1x over the prior eight-week average.
- After-hours calls (5pm to 7am) accounted for 41% of total volume, up from 22%.
- Average response time on captured jobs dropped from 47 minutes to under 3.
- Two of the three shops added a second emergency tech for the season because the booked work justified it.
The headline number: the shop in Minneapolis booked $84,000 of work that started as an after-hours call they would have missed the year before.
